Hi.
I have a 2017 CR-V with the 1.5L Turbo. 75,000km.
I am concerned about long term reliability due to the tendency towards oil dilution.
Compounding the concern, I drive mostly in the city, short distances and in Vancouver, Canada. Not too cold, but certainly not warm.
Moved closer to work, so drive less than 10,000km a year now.
Thinking about trading it in or selling it. Looking at RAV-4's, Lexus RX 350's or a 4Runner.
Obviously I'd lose some money on the trade / sale. Should I keep it or get rid of it?
Thanks.
Might as well keep it a few more years. The resale value is excellent in the 5+ year range and most of the value is already gone. You could sell it for basically the same price in a couple years. For example, listings around $15,000-20,000 now for 2017 and $13,000-$16,000 for 2012-2013.
Just curious ... did Honda offer you the software updates for the dilution issue?
Yes, they did.
Just keep it! I’m sure that CRV has another 100,000 km of life, … especially in Vancouver, BC.
If you trade it in, you will take bath, … twice! They won’t give you much for it, … and you will not be able to negotiate down price on your new chariot. For example, … on a new RAV4 - a new Trail, if you deal with cash, you can get one for about 14% off price calculated by Toyota Canada internet pricing … all in. I just got one for a friend this January last day. Now, … that’s not just odd luck, … I got a new ‘19 RAV4 Trail for my son in June 2019 last day. But you have to shop hard, … shop all Toyota dealers in your area at the same time for about 2 - 3 weeks. In my case, I pegged six dealers in my city against each other. Both times one caved, … eventually!
Roughly, that $4,000+ odd dollars is worth working hard for 2 - 3 weeks. Yes?
Btw, if you really, really worried about your CRV, however, than take your time and try to sell it privately, … and then, go shopping for a new chariot as outlined above, … take your time!
F.S.
Keep it! Just keep up with your oil changes & use the engine oil recommended for your engine.
