2017 Honda Pilot AC BLACK DEATH

Hey Scotty. Have a 2017 Honda Pilot with 50k miles. AC compressor locked up without a warning a week ago. Shot metal particles all throughout the system. I’m having the entire system replaced with new OE parts. The system requires R1234yf refrigerant with POE oil. The guy who will do my recharge of the system says to use PAG oil (made for R1234yf) instead as he claims he has seen too many new Hondas’ compressors go out and believes it’s due to the POE oil. Also have a friend who claims I’ll be OK using R134 with PAG.
What do you think is the best course of action?

 Thanks!

I have read in several places that R134a can be used as a drop-in replacement for R1234yf. The thermal characteristics of the two refrigerants are very close. I don't personally know anyone who has done it though. There may also be legal issues since refrigerants are so highly regulated by the usual suspects.
