Dear Scotty,
I just got a 2017 Lincoln Continental, from a retired couple, with 48,783 miles for $29k. The original owner paid $79k. I’d never pay that much for a car. I had it checked out and everything checks out great. The owners kept all the service records which consists of a recall and regularly scheduled services. It looks like they took excellent care of the car. They’re very nice people who sold the car cause they’re too old to drive. I like to keep my cars door as long as possible. It has a 3.0 V6 turbo with 400hp. Can I get 250k out of the engine like I did my 2005 Lexus GS?
Thanks,
Joe
Anything is possible and it’s still a fairly new vehicle to know for sure, but unfortunately the Ecoboost engines are prone to issues as they age. For the Continental I would have personally avoided the 2.7 and the 3.0 turbocharged engines. Also, those are direct injection-only engines so susceptible to carbon buildup- another hassle you will have to deal with. Additionally, there are so many bells and whistles on those luxury cars and Ford is not known for their electronics (quality-wise) either so those might also give out on you. I would just recommend to stay on top of the oil changes (engine and transmission), install a catch can to mitigate carbon buildup (this could void your warranty whatever is left), and follow your owner’s manual for maintenance. Also, don’t drive it too hard and you might get more life out of it.
You are 100% right daywalker. My grandparent have a Lincoln MKX and the got carbon buildup and ended up spending a good amount to get it sprayed off. If the warranty is ran out put a catch can on that thing and do NOT forget on time oil changes and change the spark plugs on time, every time.
