Having issue with my truck, had a main body trouble code of u0100.  Happened before but I switched out the ckp sensor and truck ran about 2.3k miles and now same thing.  Stalled while I was driving again and now car wont turn over.

”Lost communication with ECU”

Connect a scanner, check if you can get OBDII Live Data in key position II - this will tell us if the ECU is communicating now or is it not alive for some reason.

A bad crank position sensor will not effect the ECU communication but also can prevent the car from starting

Can a lost communication with ecm or ecu cause stall while driving?

Toyota uses this code as "No communication from the ECM"

This does not mean the communication is bad, after all on a modern car the comm is just pulses on the CAN wire,

What it usually means is that the Engine Control Module (ECM) isn't talking to the Body Electronic control model (ECU).

In other words, this code is saying that the computer that controls your engine isn't online / alive.

Being a modern car here the "engine computer" (ECM) directly controls everything about your engines operation, it chooses when to ignite the fuel, it chooses how much to open the throttle, it chooses for how long to keep the valves open, it basically automatically electronically controls everything about your engine - without it, it will stall or not run.

additional information:

(Usually these faults are from crappy crash damage repair, water intrusion, rodents, etc.)

First of all you want to rule out all of the obvious stuff, like maybe the sensor you installed is bringing the ECM down (or maybe you installed it in a manner that causes wires to vibrate or grind against something), maybe it's just a weak battery, maybe it's loose ground cables, etc.

A thing you can do is (generally) wiggle the wires and see if that causes the symptoms.

If it's not that, you need to begin to inspect wiring.

Anyhow, I did find this web page that does have a lot of troubleshooting info on the Tacoma communication

https://www.ttguide.net/dtc_combination_table-1506.html

I can't guarantee that everything there is correct, or that it's even safe, but with basic precautions I think you'll be alright.

But basically what it says is that you should look through your wiring and look for tears / shorts in the wires.

Maybe that's an ECM fault although I'm unsure, I'm not familiar enough with Toyotas.

There's a YouTuber called pine hollow auto diagnostics that does a lot of these wiring tests and here's what it looks like:
