Hi Everyone and Scotty!
I live up a mountain and I've been wondering if it's worth manually shifting my toyota corolla to keep the revs high as I go down the hill every day. I've done it a few times and it makes the descent much smoother. I've only ever been told that breaks cost less than transmissions so don't mess with them. I know Scotty hates the CVT transmissions and says they are quite weak compared to conventional transmissions so I'm scared to do it. Would like to keep my corolla as long as possible 🙂 Also worth noting I drive like a grandpa and enjoy trying to increase my fuel economy
Thanks for your help everyone!
Don't mess with it only shift down in an automatic if your towing something or are going up a really steep hill and you need a little extra torque otherwise let the transmission do the rest
@jacksonishere
Thanks mate! 🙂
Your gonna be fine :), just drive it normally. It's a Toyota after all.
My 2014 Corolla CVT automatically "downshifts" when going downhill to maintain speed set on cruise control. In one of Scotty's Q&A he stated this was a malfunction but it is actually engineered that way to prevent runaway downhill.
