Hello I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma 3.5 V6. The truck is in immaculate condition and has 60,000. I changed the engine oil and about a week after I changed the oil I started smelling a burning oil smell in the cabin and around the front of the truck and especially when i open the hood when the engine is running. I put a leak die in the oil to try and see if I could verify where the oil smell was coming from. The first place I looked was the oil filter housing because I put on an aftermarket Dorman housing so I thought it was leaking from there but no cigar. I also checked the drain plug but that's not the problem. Then I started going all over the engine with the black light and I haven't seen anything. The smell is still persistent! What could be the issue?
Generally burning oil on those is leaking. Valve cover gaskets that drip down on the exhaust and smolder. But if you put that aftermarket assembly on, make sure that the gaskets are sealed right? Cuz those will often drip
@scottykilmer the valve covers are clean, there's no oil leaking from them. Also the oil filter is dry. Any other ideas?
