Hey Scotty. I just watched the video about your wife’s CX-5. I have a 2018 with cylinder deactivation. Once in a while after I leave the house in the morning and stop for a coffee I’ll hear what sounds like a lifter tick in the drive thru. It goes away after driving more. Maybe after all 4 cylinders engage. Very sporadic. Sometimes goes months without doing it. Dealership gave me 120,000 mile power train warranty. I’ve brought it in and it’s never done it for them which doesn’t surprise me. Car runs fine. I’ve put 20,000 miles on it with this happening. Car now has 93,000 miles. Bought from a Mazda dealership with 72,000 still labeled as CPO with that milage. Any idea what it could be? Have you heard about this problem? Other people in a Facebook group I belong to have had the same experience. Dealer says it’s the direct injection but I feel like I know a lifter tick when I hear one.
Well first when it makes it video it with your phone. Does injectors are rather loud and they can make noises here and there. But it would have to be pinpointed as in my video. How to find the source of car noises Scotty on YouTube
As Scotty said, take a video of it to post it here and show the dealer, or maybe an independent mechanic if you want another opinion.
I do know some direct injectors can be pretty noisy.

This tells me a few things,
A. You notice it once your car has warmed up a bit, therefore its no longer high-idling like a cold start. So this only happens when your engine isnt making extra noise.
B. You notice it at drive throughs, where you are idling with the window down, and up against a wall/ structure. So more sound is bouncing off the building and your windows are down so you hear it more.
