2018 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 metal in oil

Hey Scotty, I’ve been watching tons of your video just for shits and giggles! I absolutely love them! I’ve recently bought a 2018 mustang with 39k miles on it and have put a bit  over 4k on it. After first buying it I done a oil change of royal purple, instead of 5w20 I went with 5w30. After 3-4k I went ahead and changed it again as the car itself called for it.  Upon changing it the second time I had a fair bit of metal in the oil and I’m too afraid to take it apart myself. As the mustang are notorious for a small motor knock/ping I’ve thought nothing of it. But due to seeing the metal I’m quick concerned.  Would I be able to bring it by, for you to check it out and possibly do a video on?

Metal particles in the oil is a sign of worn bearings, and a very bad sign.

Have you also thought of doing an oil analysis as well?

You went with a thicker oil than recommended by the manufacturer, not a good idea on something that isn't old tech....the modular engines are pretty touchy when it comes to that.

You might have created a situation where you are placing more wear on components on start up & now you have glitter oil, may have prematurely worn the cams/bearings with the extended time they stay dry.

If you could find out exactly what type of metal flakes they are/their hardness then you can match that up with the component it came from then go from there.
