ITEMS: Trans flushed twice w/ Full service (filter), Oil changed every 5K w/filter or before synthetic (Mobile One) all fluids flused in the past year (i.e. Coolant, Brake Fluid, suspension greased (Kryptonite UCA every oil change). I do not use the AC but punch it on every 1K to circ the oil in the system.
Seeing 200F in Miami Florida on the dash heat rerturn: Looking to add things to drop the heat. Chased the industry with no GOOD answers. My idea was to install a trans cooler and modify the active grill shutter (not throwing a code by just removing a few slats). Aware of the 6L80 issues from Sonnax but even they do not really know this beast as it has a very odd torque converter in it. I like to call it the batwing style (has a trangle style flywheel attachment). I am sure the fluid needs flused more often due to the heat ... but looking at:
Trans cooler mishimoto (v8) modified, straight lines by passing the crazy route through the radiator. Also possibly the same idea for the oil cooler. I am not a fan of several fluids using the same cooling radiator.
Direction please. Thanks in advance.
What was your finding? Our GM makes crap these days. Your idea is theoretically a good one, but here's the problem. Transmission temperatures and designs are made by engineers. If you put a cooler on you may actually make the transmission run too cool and that will cause problems too. When you get something that's poorly engineered like a GM transmission, there's no saying what will happen when you actually put a cooler on. There's too much theoretical stuff going on but what the heck the junk anyways. Maybe try a cooler
