2018 Toyota Tundra 4x4 5.7L sounds like a diesel

Hello,

if this is a repeat question I apologize. I have a 2018 Tundra 4x4 5.7. And I swear it sounds like a diesel. Dealership said it’s the sound of the injectors operating. I used to Owen a 2009 tundra with the 4.6. Great motor and it did not sound like this. Is this normal? And if not what do I need to say to my dealer to get it fixed?. I bought it used with 11250 miles.

thanks for your help..

It's a dual overhead cam engine...variable valve timing (vvt). It has oil pressure operated tensioners on the timing chains.

A similar setup as a 5.4 Ford. One of the things the Ford engine suffers from is a factory oil pump that doesn't put out enough volume to feed the variable valve system.  Melling makes an aftermarket high volume pump for Fords. The system operates from oil getting into tiny passageways. When that system begins to fail...it produces a diesel engine sound at all engine temperatures and speeds.

If the original owner didn't keep up with proper engine oil weight and change intervals, the damage is already done. Lots of moving parts that depend on clean oil of the proper viscosity so it can flow with enough volume and pressure to keep everything working smoothly.
