I purchased his car for my wife. It was shipped to us from Kentucky via Cane TOYOTA, QUESTIONS, was the drivetrain for this car made in the USA or in Japan. I think I've got a car with the fuel pump problem but have yet to hear from TOYOTA. I called them and they said it was due for a recall but no details were given. Are they stalling or what?

Depending on the number of vehicles in a recall, it can take years (Takata air bags still being recalled) to get parts to execute the recall.

My current vehicle is under a recall and Ford will contact me when they have the parts, so I wait.

Go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and put in your vehicles VIN this is the official list of recalls by NHTSA.

Toyota has drivetrain manufacturers all over the world, but the drivetrain for most north American Camry's are assembled in the TMMK Powertrain Area of the huge Georgetown, Kentucky, plant complex. It's actually one of the first areas seen as you enter the plant through the main entrance gate 2, just off Cherry Blossom Way.

Before Covid, plant tours were given on an irregular basis, but now I believe all tours have been discontinued.

The recall concerning fuel pumps in specific Toyota models is discussed in great detail at the following link: Toyota Fuel Pump Safety Recall

(Sorry, you have to select, then right click, then select "Open link in new tab")

(Really, it's not my fault. It seems links don't work in "Answer" blocks.)

Basically, as I have been told, Toyota has been using a standard low-pressure fuel pump for decades, but in certain newer vehicles under some engine modes of operation, insufficient fuel is pumped to the engine, and the engine may (or may not) slow, sputter, and stall due to lack of fuel.

Toyota is evaluating replacement pumps, but because Toyota wants to get it right, they will be conducting testing to make sure any given pump will be an appropriate long-term solution. Such actions cannot be done overnight.

Hope this helps ...
