Hi Scotty I recently purchased a 2020 Toyota Supra launch edition. It took me over 6 months to find the right car. This is the 10th Toyota in my family as I am a die hard Toyota fan but it’s a shame because they’ve treated me horribly and unethically. My car is less than a year old and it already has paint issues throughout the whole car. Every panel is affected. Toyota is not taking responsibility for the paint defect. Aside from that my passenger wiper twitches Toyota first claimed it’s normal then when I confronted them they said it’s inherited on all the new Toyota Supra’s. they told the dealership not to repair since it they don’t have a fix for it. And worse of all I was reversing my car out of the drive way the other day and my sensors glitched and my car suddenly unintentionally braked giving me a whip lash I thought I crashed into something. They said they cannot replicate the issue so they cannot repair. I’ve shown them and Toyota Corp video documents of all these issues including the glitch and sudden brake they’re still not accepting responsibility or even attempting to repair. Is there anyway you can bring this to light? I’m thinking of bringing a class action lawsuit for negligence & defective by design and manufacturer. Im super confused this is a horrible experience I’m going through. Don’t know what else to do.
@ghost
How and when did you realize the Toyota was actually a BMW? What signals did you see that gave the vibe it wasn’t a Toyota?
@ghost
I'd Lemon Law it.. look up the law in the state you're in or get a free consult with a lawyer. Make Toyota buy it back, and make sure to choose the same dealer that thought you were crazy, have them see the Toyota reps there buying back your car, and those service advisors tell them you weren't crazy after all.... Then go and buy something else. You shouldn't have any issues with that car, even if it is a re badged BMW, even those shouldn't have issues being so new.
These new Supras are almost entirely made up of BMW parts. This is common for a BMW.
@cjbman
I agree and unfortunately realized this the hard way.
First, sorry that you’re going through all this.
Second, like the poster above me said, these are BMW Z4s with Toyota badges on them.
Third, have you tried calling Toyota Customer service, or their main North American office? What Toyota doesn’t want is a bad rap. See what they saiy and keep us posted.
@satter
Thank you. It’s an unfortunate situation that I do not want to be in. Yes I have been in touch Toyota’s North America corporate office. Sadly they’re not accepting responsibility for any of this. Today they had my car inspected by a certified Toyota body shop and they had the nerve to say all the clear coat blemishes are caused by tree sap there’s no trees on my yard. Funny thing is my car has never been parked under any tree even the other shops laughed when I showed them Toyota’s explanation on the paint defect. They’re totally neglecting me and my car I’m in complete disbelief from their explanation and justification.
@ghost
Maybe try taking it to a different dealer.
And maybe they'll come up with a car paint that handles tree sap...since they are a bit common...
Yea, bs. It should be designed to withstand tree sap anyway! I mean other cars do... I just wash it off...
Sorry to hear you're going through this.
Fingers crossed eventually Toyota will make an actual Supra instead of a rebadged BMW.
@rpmartin32
Wise words. You couldn't have said it better. I hope they do because this was not a finished product. Seems like they just rushed this car to the showroom only to capture sales. It’s very apparent they’re not worried about the build quality.
Yeah, it's very surprising considering Toyota's legacy has been built upon quality. They're going to hurt their reputation if they keep this up.
Trade it at the Toyo for a real Toyo. And realize, dealers have to deal/oblige Toyo corporate decisions, in this case a bad one subcontracting the Supra to BMW. If I was a Toyo dealer... I wouldn't sell them on my lot... unless corporate enforcement...
