I brought a 2021 Corolla LE about a month ago and its giving me an average of 21 MPG. Toyota says it has a MPG up to 31 city. I mostly drive it in the city. Is there something wrong with my brand new Corolla?
I though Corollas, especially new Corollas, have good MPG. It's one of the reasons I chose a compact car. I haven't damaged it or anything like that.
If it is brand new, it is probably still breaking in. Drive it for a few thousand miles and you should see it increase as the computer collects enough data to adjust to your driving style.
Are you going by the readout on the instrument cluster or are you dividing your miles driven between fill-ups by how many gallons of gas it takes to fill it up? The latter method is very accurate if done correctly...
Search to see if other people have similar issue. If not, then take it to the dealer and ask them to fix it under warranty.
I switch the gauge to MPG per tank and its showing 33. Good enough for me. Hopefully it will get better as the engine gets more mileage.
Life is a bitch if all you do is drive in the city: … car runs, burns gas, proceeds slowly not logging much of a distance, … and it takes thrice, … or more time to get to wherever you trying to get to. So, … most likely your new Corolla is doing just fine.
To give you some perspective - an example: … my ‘10 Honda Fit burns as little as about 5 litres per 100 kilometres when I’m driving across the country in the summer - about 650 kilometres to a full tank. When I’m doing primarily 50/50 city/country, my consumption drops to, … oh, about 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres - in the summer. One hundred percent city, … registers not much less than about 10 litres per 100 klicks - summer driving again.
Currently, being winter, above numbers are elevated by about 15 - 20%, … especially city driving. Highway, less than 10%
Anyway, … I think your Corolla is doing just fine! Think about it, …
Best,
