I have 6 months left on my lease for a 2021 Honda CR-V. I've had trouble with the heating system from the beginning and just this past summer the air conditioning stopped working. There was a recall issued in June for an "A/C Compressor Shaft Seal Leak". Tried to get the dealer to replace it but they don't seem too interested in doing that until they have more time to look at the entire heating and cooling system. Today is the first day I've driven it in bad weather and it performed horribly. I'd like to know if you've heard any of these complaints before and do you think it's worth trying to buy at the end of the lease or should I move on? If I move on, any suggestions on what I should be looking for, especially when it comes to bad weather? And before anyone questions my driving abilities, I've been driving in bad weather for more than 30 years! I got around better in my old front wheel drive Ford Taurus than this damn Honda! Thanks!
No. Don't buy this CR-V. This is one of the reasons you would lease a new car - to try it out and dump it if it gives you lots of problems. Even if the Honda's problems could be resolved, unsatifactory service from the local dealer would be a good reason not to keep it past the expiration of the lease because there still might be some warranty left that could cover failed parts. Check out a Toyota RAV4 and lease one of those for the same reason if you want. It's similar in size and features to the CR-V.
It would be a good idea to document that the dealer refused to perform repairs under warranty and secure evidence to that fact. That way if you turn in a car with all these problems, you have recourse aginst the leasing agent if they want to make you pay to correct these issues.
in terms of value, buying any car after leasing it is never worth your money. You would have paid less overall if you had bought it brand new in the first place. But I agree that if this car is giving you problems, it's definitely not worth it, so good thing you did lease it.
