2022 Volvo XC 90 vs Mazda CX 9

I am planning on buying luxury SUV (BMW, AUDI and Mercedes) but I am really surprised to learn about their maintenance cost. But I liked the 2022 Volvo XC 90,I am unable to find any information on this online, Do you think this will be a worthy purchase- 2022 VOLVO XC 90 momentum model for around $56000. I really don't want to run behind dealerships with maintenance issues as I am thinking of using this new SUV for 10 years.

I have a budget of around $55k to spend on a luxury SUV and along with XC 90 I also have Acura MDX and RDX on my mind. But I also like the Mazda CX 9. I will be test driving it this coming weekend. Could you please let me know If I am thinking this in the correct direction? Please advise what is the best new SUV to buy in this range or lesser than this. Really looking for a good SUV with reliablity , good handling and comfy interiors

Thanks for all your help.

Amongst those, definitely forger the Volvo. I would choose Acura.

How about Mazda CX 9 2021 model?

I would not choose that over the Acura. The Honda and Toyota products can outlast Mazda in the long run. On another note, the CX-9 is not a big seller for Mazda as well and I think it was due to some issues with the powertrain.

Thanks a lot.. Which models do you recommend in Honda and Toyota, I am looking for a sort of Midsize/Compact SUV. I have watched some videos on CX 5 on YouTube posted by Scotty , it seems like he is happy with CX 5 Quality nowadays.

How about any good midsize/Compact SUV's in Hyundai or Subaru?

CX-5 is the best selling SUV in the Mazda line up. I would consider Lexus RX350 and Toyota Highlander. In my opinion, Highlander has the best value.

Sure I will check out the Highlander. I test drove a Lexus RX 350 last week but the feel was not that great for the $50K price point. It simply felt like an upgraded car, not a SUV.

Given the current circumstances with transaction prices being higher than usual, I would get an XC60 instead of an XC90. I have a client that recently got an S60 and I saved her $1,000 ($500 teacher discount plus an extra $500 I negotiated for). The new Volvos use Aisin transmissions also. Aisin is a Toyota-owned company. An XC90 T6 Momentum goes for around $60K while an XC60 B5 Momentum goes for around $48K.

That depends on what you want, Volvo is probably the best out of all Euro brands IMO, but they won't be as reliable as a Honda or Toyota product unless you go back decades ago when they can go millions of miles. Also keep in mind that Volvo's resale value is not as good as Honda, Toyota, or Mazda's, but if you do lease it, it's fine. The new 2022 Acura MDX is really nice and a big improvement over the previous-gen which had questionable reliability from the crappy transmission software to the horrible infotainment system (even though the latest Acura infotainment has a learning curve, you can get used to it eventually but I don't find it as intuitive as BMW iDrive 8.0 or Volvo's system where it's android based and the recent Polestar models have built-in google maps and assistant). RDX is a great choice since it has the Accord's powertrain just with more HP, Mazda CX-9 is a good choice too, the 6 speed auto (from Aisin) will probably outlast the Aisin 8 speed in the Volvo (despite it being a Toyota Transmission) and the 10 speed auto in the Honda products and the 2.5T is a pretty good engine.

If you wanna lease one of them, I would go with the XC90 with its luxurious interior even though it's eventually due for a redesign, it looks like it came out yesterday. If you want long life the MDX should be good (even if it's not as good as the Lexus RX for reliability, the space and infotainment is way better and the RX-L is terrible value for a 3 row SUV unless you want the extra cargo space, you don't care about the frustrating trackpad infotainment and the useless 3rd row).

If you’re just after the badge, lease whichever German SUV you wish.

If you’re dead set on the 10yr trouble free lifespan, it’ll have to be a Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura product. Maybe Mazda too.

Throw in the CR-V and RAV4 too..

Thank you all for your valuable advice, this information is very helpful. Especially on Volvo's I never found anything online. I will keep an option open to lease an XC 90 model for now.

I will also go ahead and test drive the 2021 Mazda CX 90 (not sure on when the 2022 model will be out) and 2022 Toyota Highlander. Will it be really worth it to test drive a Hybrid highlander, I am really concerned about the smoothness of the engine and value as I am planning to buy an SUV for a very long term at least for 10 years. And also the cost of Hybrid model is little more than the regular gasoline mode and I never drove a Hybrid SUV before.
