Hello Scotty and crew,
I recently purchased a new 2023 Subaru forester sport and I am having some issues. I only have around 2200 miles on it and it started lurching/jerking forward slightly on braking towards the end of the brake. I have a video of the rpms actually going up slightly while braking. I also noticed that at lower than 30 mph, the vehicle sometimes feels like it is engine breaking. When I press the gas during the engine breaking sensation, there is a jerk and the rpms actually decrease slightly.
I took it to the dealership I bought it from and they said this is all normal and couldn’t find anything wrong, yet the loaner Subaru they gave me didn’t have any of these issues. Though it seems to have disappeared, there was also a burning rubber/sulfur smell coming from the rear passenger tire. I am extremely frustrated and don’t have any idea what could be causing this. Could you please give me some idea? Thank you for all your exciting car videos.
Dealers hate warranty work since they don't make any money from it. They'd say it was "normal" if the car turned right when you turn the steering wheel left. The burning smell from the rear tire would be consistent with a dragging caliper. If that's what's happening the brake pads on that wheel should show more wear than the others.
The car is under warranty so make them fix it. Take it to another dealer and/or escalate the issue to Subaru corporate if necessary.
