Hey Scotty! I have a 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD with 10k miles. How can I prevent carbon build up in the engine over time if I'm only driving city miles? Because it's a hybrid, the engine shuts on and off a lot and I really don't have time to drive on the highway once a week for a hour with no destination just to prevent carbon build up. I always see you recommending Bernie's ATS Fuel Cleaner. Is this something I can use as a carbon build up preventative in a hybrid engine? If so how often should it be added to the fuel. I only fill the tank with Shell regular gas and change the oil every 3k miles with Mobile 1 synthetic. I really need this car to last me a long time. Thanks for the advice!
Bernie's ATS Fuel Cleaner. Is this something I can use as a carbon build up preventative in a hybrid engine?
ATS fuel cleaner cleans carbon buildup but it doesn't prevent carbon buildup. So, using ATS in a new engine wouldn't be very beneficial.

Actually any 87 octane 10% ethanol blended gas is fine to use. There's no requirement or need to use ethanol free gas products as the car was designed to run on gas adhering to the 10% ethanol standard.
So, aside from a drive on the highway for an hour at 75mph, how else can carbon build up be prevented? I only drive city miles.

One of the downsides to GDI technology is that gas no longer cleans the valves. There's really not much that can be done without port injection, so change the oil frequently.
That occasional Italian tuneup is literally 'good for the engine'.
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid does not have GDI technology. The motor is a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine. Oil is changed every 3k.
My mistake! (sry!) You're absolutely correct, the Atkinson engine is multi-port injection. All you need to do is use good gas. An engine that isn't running bad or misbehaving in any way doesn't need an additive. Bernie's cleaner isn't a preventative, it probably won't hurt anything but it will not prevent anything.
Ok, thanks. I just wanted to do my best to stay ahead of any build up since I don't do any highway driving.
