I know the current tundra has a twin turbo engine. I dont plan on towing anything just really want a tundra and curious if its worth it. How reliable do you guys think the engine will be in the long run and is it worth getting?

If it were me, and I really needed a new truck, I would find the best 2020-2022 tundra I could with low miles and buy it.

Guessing on the longevity of a new one is simply a best educated guess. You can be nearly certain though, that they will not outlast a regular 5.7 powered Tundra. You are also likely to get WORSE mpg than the V8.

I love Toyota, and I love my 4.7 powered GX470 because it is strong and crazy reliable. I would not hesitate to get a Tundra with the 5.7, but I would give it at least 5 years before touching one of the new ones.

IMO, the Tundra is still best of breed, but the difference between it and the competition is shrinking.  Enough so that other factors, like discounts and dealer ethics, can easily make up for the small difference in quality.

Their stupid infotainment system doesn’t help anything.

Not looking great, so far. You might want to wait until they work out the kinks instead of being an early adopter.

The 3.5L V6 V35A-FTS (whose displacement is actually 3.4L) shows turbo-related problems, basically right off the lot. (amateur estimates say about 10% failure rate)

Unfortunately, fixing this is a cab-off engine-out procedure, and parts were not available. (may not be the case any more). Trucks were sitting at the dealership for at least a month waiting for parts.

Of course having incompetent dealerships taking these trucks to bits opens a whole other can of worms. One owner reported getting their truck back with pieces missing.

Toyota bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10209013-9999.pdf

No warranty extensions has been issued. Owners say Toyota is evasive on the issue.

There are some recalls as well.

Wow, this is how they fix some issues related to Diesel trucks by taking the cab off.  The Car Wizard warned against buying a modern Diesel truck for just that reason!!  Lots of $$$ out of warranty to repair.

.

I had no idea it was needed in the case of a gas powered vehicle, let alone a Toyota!  Holy, moly - imagine out of warranty how expensive it can be owning this truck!
.
It’s sad to see Toyota reliability taking a hit like this.   I really hope they figure it out and make reliable vehicles again.

@daywalker well what do this engine and big diesels have in common .... turbocharging, which has to fold the exhaust over. This adds to the size of the engine big time.

Only Time would tell if it's Reliable or Not

I Personally changed the Engine Oil Every 3k Miles/4.8k Kilometers since that thing is Turbocharged (V35A-FTS 3.5L V6tt DOHC Dual VVT-i)

@nlord is right.

The latest Tundra is a totally new platform. No one knows.

Knowing Toyota, it is probably a better bet than other makes.

But if you want better chances at longevity, the previous generation may be more viable with the data we have at this time.
