5W-30 vs 0W-30 oil

Hey Scotty I've heard people say you can use 0W-30 oil where 5W-30 is recommended just fine. I know the viscosity is different because 0W-30 is thinner for cold temperatures. I know you're generally not a fan of switching from synthetic oil to regular oil because an engine can leak due to the viscosity change. Would this happen by using 0W-30 oil instead of 5W-30 in my 07 Avalon V6 in Utah where we're just hitting the warm season? Or is it OK to use it?

Use the oil that is recommended by the manufacturer. For the 2007 Avalon it is only 5W-30 and 5W-20, according to this chart:

it's usually when you go from regular oil to synthetic where the leaks happen because there are a lot of chemical compounds in synthetic that can be hard on seals. Stick with the weight(s) that's recommended, your choice on whether or not to stick with regular oil or change to synthetic. If there's no problems, no need to change what you've been doing.
