My car would randomly not crank. Then it sometimes would start and run for a few days. shut it off no crank again. sometime 10 minutes later it would start or my be a few days later. Now it wont crank at all. I've ran A push start button to the starter and it does turn over the engine starts for 2-3 seconds and dies .  I've changed the Ignition switch, Ignition control module and bypassed the vats security system. there are no security or check engine lights lit up on the dash. One of the last times I drove it it wouldn't go passed 2500-3000 rpm and would not shift like its in limp mode. Every once in awhile it would stutter for a few seconds while driving then run fine. next day after limp mode ran fine. It seems something is cutting off the ignition and fuel. also 4-6 month before this problem my battery would die over night. changed battery and alternator. Not sure if the two are connected but it seems when the car runs fine the battery does not drain. when it doesn't start the battery is also dead. Please help not sure what else controls the ignition. Thanks

Check the OptiSpark. Those are famous for going out on the LT1 V8's.

It is located beneath the water pump.

Ok thanks. Ill look into that.

One question if the Optispark was bad the car would still crank right? It just would not run. I'm asking because the Opti was replaced 8 years ago 50k mile on the newer one. I found receipt from last owner. Its a pain to do and expensive to have done. Not changing unless I'm 100% that's it. The car wont crank over at all. and battery drains over night. battery may be a problem on its own just giving the info I have.
