96 F150 4.9 OBS Transmission fluid change

Scotty, I have a 96 F150 4.9L I6 that I am wanting to change the pan gasket and pan from. While doing so I would likely change out the filter. Should I reuse the old transmission fluid as the fluid currently in the E40D transmission is a light brown in color and just top it off? or do you think it would be safe to replace the fluid? Also, is there any funnel out there that can catch any large particles so I don't damage the transmission if there are any large metal shavings or pieces in the old fluid if I should reuse the old fluid?

Depends on mileage. Most transmissions all you want to do is change the fluid in the pan, clean the pan, change the filter and add back enough to top off your fluid. I would add a quart of Lucas transmission stabilizer as well. If your over 175-200k in mileage then you will want to save, strain and reuse the fluid from the pan.
