Hello I have an automatic 98 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 inline 6 4wd with 160k miles . Currently I am having trouble with it stalling out when driving on the highway or at low speeds and immediately after starting. at first it was small but then became a larger issue my first solution was a fuel pump due to the symptoms but no luck. it then got much worse and now backfires and will lose almost all power then power will return on it's own or after it completely dies it will always start back up either immediately or it will turn over for about 10 seconds then start I changed all spark plugs and wires and ignition coil the backfires are better but it's still backfires and loses power at times along with the long crank time I cannot figure this out I have an appointment at a local shop that specializes in jeeps but that's in 3 weeks so I am attempting to get more opinions
What time does things can make a car die but if you got a vehicle at a shop for 3 weeks and they can't figure out I'd give up with them and find someone else. From my experience with those 98 Grand Cherokees I generally have wiring problems where the computer goes bad or the wiring between the engine and the inside compartment that goes to the firewall will often short out
