AC compressor Clutch gap widens when bolt is tightened

Hi everyone. Newbie here. Just bought my first car in USA 2008 Corolla. I noticed that the AC sometimes works and other times it doesn't.

After some tinkering online and checking the relays and stuff, I noticed that the AC compressor clutch was too far from the pulley and bearing. I nudged the clutch forward to reduce the gap and then the clutch was engaging and the AC started working beautifully.

So I thought it is a problem with the clutch being too far. I also noticed the clutch has no bolt on it. I found a bolt in the dash compartment and thought it was from the clutch. It was the size of 10 MM about an inch long. I tried to fit it and it seemed to be a fit but I noticed that the clutch was slowly moving away from the pulley and bearing as I tightened the clutch. When I thought I tightened the clutch sufficiently, the clutch gap is too much for it to engage.I

don't know I am using the wrong screw or if something else is going on.

Realize the Gap is adjusted by internal shims on the shaft. Unless someone had worked on that vehicle you need a new clutch assembly. It's just worn out. They're built and adjusted correctly and if the adjustment goes out later, it's not because of the adjustment. It's because the clutch assembly is worn too much or the compressor itself is broken. These days. Most people just replace the compressor clutch assembly as a unit so they don't have to worry that. Oh well, I put a new clutch on now. The compressors broken 2 months later
