Acceleration Pedal Position Sensor

After consulting the repair manual for the 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 178k automatic. It has two bolts at the top and one bolt a the bottom. I am using a 3/8 inch ratchet with a 6 inch extension. I took off the plastic piece directly below the steering wheel so I could get to the gas pedal. I put a 10 socket on there for the bottom bolt it fit like a glove. I cant remove the top ones until I remove the bottom bolt first. The ratchet is turning but the bolt screw is not loosening. I have tried hitting it with a hammer to try and knock it loose. Nothing I am doing is working. I forget the codes but with all the research and everything I have replaced reading blogs from mechanics etc. I have done this need to be replaced. What do I need to do in order to get this bolt loose? I am almost at the point of taking it to the mechanic but I would like to do it myself if all possible. I thought there might be a nut that's on the back of it. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Not being able to run basic errands is a real pain. Also do you have any tips of making it easier to put the new one on. I heard lining it up is also a real pain.

Thank You Scotty

Anthony

There is probably a lock nut on the other end of the bolts.

Not according to the schematics that was emailed to me directly from Nissan.

If I'm following along right the 10mm nut on this bolt is giving you a problem.

Instead of using a socket, spin that 10mm nut with a wrench so you can see if the bolt is turning with the nut as you try to loosen it.

If the bolt is turning with the nut and you can't get behind it with a wrench, you can try sliding a pry bar behind the plate and putting pressure on the bolt head on the backside to hold it from spinning as you try to loosen the 10mm nut.

If the nut is spinning but the bolt isn't spinning then the threads are damaged on either the nut or the bolt ((or both)).

In that case you'll have to cut the nut off using a nut splitter or a cutting tool (costs about $10 at the auto parts store)
