Anomalies of Bad Brands Making Good Cars

It seems that the forum is in consensus that Toyota and Honda are the most reliable makes for the long term over other makes. Granted there are models here and there that may not be as reliable.

With that said, I am curious if there are any specific models from OTHER makes that have proven to be reliable, where most in their make fall apart before 100K or just turn into a money pit.

What unreliable make/brand has a reliable model and what makes that model so special?

Nissan Frontier. That is a model made much better than Nissan cars which tend to have the transmisison go out 100k miles. Did you mean specifically cars?

I think any vehicle will qualify, truck included.

Any automobile, trucks included!

Good;) I would also like to add the Nissan Leaf as everything else the same, it would most likely last longer than a Sentra/Altima.

Leafs? Really? They have some longevity to them?

Well they are electric cars that are simple. Now if we take Scotty's words he says that they are a lot better made than the gasoline cars. Or it could be that most Leaf owners don't put many miles on it. I made a mistake by writing "everything else the same." If you buy a Leaf, there range is not the best you most likely put a low amount of daily city driving. With that miles, you could get maybe double the age than a Sentra or something. Carcomplaints is down but I would also want to check that out but I remember it to be rated highly. Now when it comes to ownership I would hate to own a Leaf because of its range and safety but........ I am getting off topic. Frontier is my answer for now.

Pretty much any GM vehicle with the 3.8 v6. In particular Buick

Also the Pontiac Vibe

We are talking only vehicles still in production?

Preferably in production in the past 10 years. But if it goes beyond that, I don't mind hearing those either.

Let's see here... I'll try to keep it within the last 12 years or so

Suzuki Equator (Although it's pretty much a Fronteir)

Chevrolet SS (Solid built with a beefy V8)

Pontiac G8 (Once again, a solid platform and huge engine)

Hummer H2 (Scotty did a video on one recently, but well-built)

Chevrolet Spark (Reasonably nice compact vehicle that has aged well so far, and you can't complain for the $)

There are several brands that were reliable in the past and you can still see their cars form that time on roads. When it comes to their newer cars, you see the reliability got retired.

Would Cadillac One make the cut?  It's a one of a kind GM product, but I am guessing it would have to be one of the most reliable vehicles in the world.

I wouldn't call it a bad brand overall, but it's not Toyota or Honda....

The Ford/Mercury/Lincoln Panther platform with the 4.6L V8.

We are looking at vehicles that have minimal issues and can go beyond 100,000 miles.  JD Power does not look at long-term reliability of vehicles.

Thanks for sharing the JD Power and Associates list. I'm looking for the Scotty Kilmer and Associates POV.
