[Solved] Any educated people care to hazard a guess at estimate of damage?

Over the weekend we were rear ended in our 2012 RX350 - 141,000 miles.

Local shops are taking 3 weeks or more just to get an estimate but I don't mind a ballpark figure if I can get one. Just to have an idea of where I stand. In one of the photos, if I get them to show up. You can see that the structure of the frame and bumper weren't impacted. Even the foam behind isn't damaged.

Am I looking at total loss? It's a confusing time with the car market and how insurance may view things.

$14,232 in damage from what they were able to see so I'm sure it's totaled wherever we take it.

Just an update.

Thanks for keeping us updated.

It could be a total loss just because Lexus parts are quite expensive. When you consider that, plus paint and labor, replacement of the tail light assembly, and the age and mileage of the car....there's thousands of dollars in damages there no doubt.

I'd hesitate to put a dollar amount on repairs as they differ depending on your market, but if it isn't a total loss...I would think it is close. I had a guy sideswipe my 2008 Lexus LS460. Replacing the left front fender, headlight, and painting the area impacted was $4000. And that was in 2019.

On the brighter side, that damage does not affect the car's drive-ability if fixed. If you plan to keep it forever, and they total it, you can but it back, fix it yourself, and may come out ahead.

A friend got in an accident with her 2007 sequoia and it mangled the front end pretty good, but no damage even to the radiator or anything else.  Insurance company totaled it, gave her like 10k for it. She paid them $1600 to buy it back, and fixed it for like 4-5k. She plans to keep the car anyway, and came out a bit ahead.

It really depends on the shop estimate and the insurance.
