Scotty! I’m looking at some Kia electrics (The Soul EV and the Niro EV). I know you’re not a fan of Kia, however I’m wondering what you would think of a Kia Electric as a lower priced EV. Would they be decently reliable for a lower priced option? Or would they be a pile of crap? Thanks!
Well electric cars are so new nobody knows about their reliability really you see the GM cars have started on fire lots of them had battery problems I personally would not buy an electric car today. They're overpriced and nobody knows how long they're going to last judging by Kia and Hyundai's past records I wouldn't say they're probably going to make great electric cars either
Currently we are not recommending any Hyundai Motor Group products. As for EVs, realize batteries degrade over time and there’s constantly newer and better EVs coming out, so I would never recommend to buy any EV (even Toyota’s): if you like it, have a short commute, have a place to charge it (without catching on fire), then just lease it. But I would personally shy away from anything made by Hyundai Motor Group, even their EVs.
Considering the well-earned reputation that brand has for "Kwality" I'd steer clear.
Hyundai Kona Electric Battery Worldwide Recall Will Cost $900 Million
Thousands of vehicles were recalled because they catching on fire. Some people had their homes burned down.

"After announcing a global recall of 82,000 electric vehicles to replace a faulty battery pack, Hyundai and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have confirmed which vehicles in the United States are affected."
I don't understand why anybody would buy ANYTHING from this company. There's a very a good reason Scotty isn't a fan.
Even Fiat makes Kia look bad, and takes a lot!
I wouldn't buy.
Kia has a bad history to this day. Even the Kia Soul EV and Niro EV can start on fire by overcharging it. So in conclusion, don't buy it.
Short answer: No.
For more information, see all other answers in this thread. They are right.
sure, if you want to burn down your house!
No, they are not and I don't have high hopes for the upcoming Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5 based on all the troubles that they have had previously with the Kona, Soul, and Niro EV. Scotty believes that VW will be the better make for EVs, however, I would agree on that to a certain extent because car brands like Nissan have more experience producing EVs for over a decade. If u had to get an EV, I would look into Nissan since the Leaf was a pioneer and they have been fairly reliable since its launch in 2010, and if u live in warm and colder climates and u just need a commuter car that is not too far, it's worth a look.
