Hello all. I have a 1998 Toyota Camry 2.2l 4 cylinder and I've just recently noticed that the automatic transmission cable selector bracket (the 90 degree metal piece which connects the cable to the transmission itself) is starting to rust rather alarmingly. It still feels solid for right now but I'm a bit nervous because I've checked and Toyota no longer makes it. I've also tried all the major after market web sites and can't find anything. Please help, I'm not sure what I'll do if it breaks. Like I said it seems solid for now and the cable itself is fine but the rust is worrying me. I can send someone a picture as well if it helps. The OEM part number is 33823-33010 but like I said Toyota no longer makes it. Thanks!!!
I've pretty much checked all of the major aftermarket options
this was in the top few web search results. It says "in stock"

I might have the wrong part number. What I'm looking at is at he end of the cable and has 2 bolt holes, a square hole that connects to the cable and a round one that connects to the transmission. And a bend in the middle...
It functions similar to this but it's a different shape: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-help-shift-lever-arm-74124/11922191-p?product_channel=local&store=9336&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_channel=local&store_code=9336&gclid=CjwKCAiA76-dBhByEiwAA0_s9aZbN0MvIydjdRhgfQn2ek1dfZnfFHmQkert7EMmsSaXoob_qxaCkxoCkL8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Ok but how do I upload it to the thread?
Possibly you missed the instructions for photos when you first read the Read this first post near the top of the topic list. Check it again.
I can send someone a picture as well if it helps.

Have you checked for an aftermarket one or taken a look at junkyards?
I'll check the junkyards but unless there's a really obscure website I haven't heard of I've pretty much checked all of the major aftermarket options I can find and no dice...

Actually I'll just use this example since it's the same. It's rusty here too. But it's that metal connecting rod piece at the bottom that the cable is bolted to..

Sorry if I'm being a pain. Just want to make sure I get this right. Really appreciate the help!!

Can you at least circle it?
go ahead and follow the link you posted. Did you try any of those solutions?
Hi all, I have a 98 Camry 2.2l 4 cylinder automatic. I have a picture here (it's not my car but it's the same thing) of a lower transmission cable connecting piece which I need help finding. It is the selector rod (I think that might be what it's called) which bends in the middle and connects the cable itself to the transmission. Not the mounting bracket but the lower piece. Dealer doesn't seem to have a clue but maybe someone here can help me. Thanks!!
Don't double post please. I won't warn you again. Rules are posted in the 'Welcome' topic.
Why not fix the rust before the part fails? If it's still functional, get the thing out, remove the rust with a wire brush wearing safety glasses, or use Rust-o-leum's spray rust removing gel that's phosphoric acid based. Diluted hydrochloric acid is also effective, but it's also more hazardous. Wear safety glasses and gloves if you go that route. Get every speck of rust off.
Once you've descaled the thing, etch prime, prime and then paint it. Do a few layers of the top coat if it makes you feel better. The more layers between the steel and the elements, the better.
Most of my truck's exhaust mounts were rusted off when I bought it, except one. I took it off, brought it to work, stripped the rust and plated it with nickel. It'll never rust again. Not everyone has access to stuff like that, but the paint will be a decent in between.
