Last week I went to BJ's club tire department to get a nail removed from a tire. When I checked in they said they were busy which I understood, so I walked around the club....well I checked the window that shows the shop every 30 minutes and in the first 30 minutes my car was in a bay, then it litterly sat there for another 3.5 hours so, 4 hours total. I then wait for my keys since I saw it was not in the bay anymore and get into my car and it feels funny. I check and the tempature of the engine seems high and the drive home she didnt seem right. I do have a dash cam, so I reviewed its video. I looked and the car was done in 1 hour and then was left RUNNING with engine on in the bay for the next 3 hours. I looked, she has a burt oil smell and was low on it too. I went back to BJ's and the manager would not view my video which i brought with me on my phone and had me fill out a claim form and said thier insurance comapny would contact me and would take no responsilbity and that he would save his bay videos.
Does anyone have input on this? I am in Houston TX and it was litterly 100* outside.
EDIT: Its a 2005 Toyota Camry with 190,000 miles. She does burn oil, like maybe 1 quart every 4000 miles.
Good luck, but unfortunately from what I've seen with other people when a shop damages their old, high-mileage car you're going to have a real uphill battle on your hands. They'll likely say your car is 20 years old and worn out, that it was like that when it came in, and will disavow responsibility for any problems it may have.
It's because of situations like this that while I may buy tires from a discount chain, or take them in for puncture repair, I will never let the place touch my car. I take the tires/wheels off the car and bring those in to be worked on.
the tempature of the engine seems high
"seems"? what did the gauge say?
the drive home she didnt seem right.
you need to be more specific
was left RUNNING with engine on in the bay for the next 3 hours
Strange. But shouldn't cause problems.
burt oil smell and was low on it too.
not unexpected for an oil burning engine.
Does anyone have input on this?
I'm not familiar with BJ's, but I would stick to dedicated mechanic shops rather than stores that have a garage attached.
