I have a 2003 bmw 325i automatic with about 160k miles. It seems to have major loss of power all the time but especially around 2k rpms in 3rd and 4th gear, it will bob up and down around 2k rpms while accelerating and have almost no power at all then gain some power back when it rises above 2k. Also sometimes when I’m accelerating it will lose all power and the rpms will bounce between 1-3k and I’ll have to turn it off and back on again to make it stop. Any ideas? Maybe o2 sensor?
I don’t know the exact cause of your dilemma. My cousin had a 3-series of the same era. Third gear went out on the transmission, and they junked the car.
I think this may be the worse case scenario for you. It could be other causes.
Get it scanned for codes and start from there.
