Hey everyone, I was looking at the owners manual for my 2017 Mazda Miata and was wondering do you really need to flush the brake fluid on cars?

Yes.

wondering if the car had to be running for a bit,

Brake fluid level doesn't depend on temperature (much).

It depends on your brake pads. As the pads wear, the pistons move further, and the fluid level in the reservoir drops. This is why you never top up brake fluid (as long as it's above the min. mark). You should pay more attention to the age and color of the brake fluid. If it's still the original fluid, you should definitely replace it.

You may have air bubbles in the system (though I would be asking myself how they got there), or a failing master cylinder. With that mileage you might as well replace them both and bleed everything properly.

Hey everyone, my girlfriend has a 2003 ford ranger with 145,000mi which has a braking problem, you have to push the pedal about half way down for the brakes to engage. I've checked all the pads and my next guess would have been to check the brake fluid but was wondering if the car had to be running for a bit, cold, or it wouldn't matter. Thanks a lot for all y'all do!
