Brake pad replacements Ceramic or Semi-Metalic for 03 F-150. I tow about 5 - 6 times a year
Hello,
I need new brakes (rotors and pads all four wheels) for my 03 F-150 and I know Scotty recommends Akebono brake pads which are ceramic which I put on my Highlander. My questions are I tow a travel trailer and sometimes my small 6 x 10 enclosed cargo trailer several times a year I found out that ceramic brakes increase stopping distance and people on the internet (you have to believe everything you hear on the internet right lol) have said that you should use semi-metallic for towing as they also have a higher heat tolerance, and don't increase the stopping distance, but don't last as long.
My brakes did overheat in July 2021 while towing and driving down a steep mountain in Oregon which was a very long downhill and I would like to buy brakes that don't overheat as well as I don't want to increase my stopping distance although I do have a good proportional brake controller.
Second part of the question is should I buy new rotors that were made by ford or someone else?
Thanks,
Lyle
Ceramics are best but there's many types I personally like the akebono ceramics
I know you like akebono ceramics, but I am not sure if they are good enough for towing a 21 foot travel trailer. Ceramics don't have as much heat resistance and stopping power. I installed Akebono on my Highlander and love it. Just not sure to install them on my 03 Ford F-150 as I do some towing with it.
