Hello, a friend of mine has a 2012 Honda Odyssey with 70ish thousand miles with an automatic transmission. Some wonderful person decided to smash the passenger side tail light assembly in a parking lot the other day. Looking to order a replacement but since, it has rained and the bulbs have stopped working. Is there any possible shorting out that could have happened or possible electrical damage, etc that could have happened? I’d like to know before I go ahead and install a new assembly. Thank you!
Sure, that's entirely possible. At the very least, you'd need an electrical probe to check for power and ground at the connectors. Do that, first.
Thank you!
Most likely it's just the bulbs got burned. Do probe with a volt meter for power and ground. Just in case of course. To prevent further water contamination. Make sure dry, then try to clean out the little bit of rust if there is any then electrical grease. That way you can insure there will be little to no corrosion in the future
Thank you!
The bulbs probably just burnt out. It doesn't take much to cause incandescent bulb to blow. Test out the circuit to make sure it's still fine electrically and the connectors are completely dry before ya plug in a new tail light assembly.
Thank you!
Test the circuit to find out if anything was shorted. If you find any shorts then check the fuse as it could have blown. Like mentioned above you can use a power probe to test the connections. It could of just been a bulb but its always a good idea to test things especially on electrical connections.
Thank you!
