I have the opportunity to buy a Prism, the car seems to be mechanically fine, shifts fine, drives fine, etc. Normally I don't trust Chevy but hey it's pretty much a Toyota Corolla so it seems like a pretty good deal. The miles are 145k btw.
For $500 if it runs OK, shifts OK, and stops OK, just drive it until something expensive goes wrong. Just don't put a lot of money into that car. Treat it as a disposable item.
It's a one owner vehicle too, oil looks clean, tranny fluid looks ok. Like i said it shifts fine runs fine. I'm willing to gamble with it since gas I'd killing me right now. I have a 2020 Tacoma so if the car does die i still have another car. The Prism will be honestly just to commute to work so.hey if I get a few months out of it it will pay itself off pretty quick with all the gas i will save.

If it only works for a week, you are still ahead of the game.
For a beater and/or project car, and if it checks out, YES!!! Go for it.
