Buying first truck/suv

I've saved up to $8k from working minimum wage for 2 years and looking for a truck or suv up to $8k of any year as long it runs good. Looking at either 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali 152k miles for $7k or 2008 Cadillac Escalade 167k miles for $8k.

All of those are endless money pits that will eat you out of house and home.

Totally avoid American products that age and with that mileage. Most people want big, 3rd row SUVs. Look at the opposite end of the spectrum and try to buy a good used Toyota or Honda SUV, or the Honda Ridgeline. It's a unibody that's built to resemble a truck. It's really an independent rear suspension, and doesn't drive like a truck, at all.

Forget about trucks/SUVs in that price range. You don't want them.

Try to find a Toyota sedan with less than 120k miles and less than 12 years old.

you would be looking at a $5k bill for a new transmission pretty soon with those.

Escalades are money pits jam packed full of expensive, failing electronics. Not to mention that it's a Bankruptcy year.

And those were the early years of everyone’s favorite cylinder deactivation system GM’s AFM.

Well there are plenty of beated up trucks and suvs in my place for much lower price and some runs and drives at least. I'm looking for a truck or suv cause I thought it will be much easier to drive and safer but sedans are ok.

Avoid both unless if it's before 2005 GM trucks are better made back then except Cadillac which they can turn to an endless money pit as they age. You better off buying a Toyota or Ford truck.

your avatar makes me read all your comments in an angry tone 😆

I know 😂

trucks are easier to drive? Parking them sure isn't.

If you drive safely then it shouldn't affect your decision too much. There are definitely unsafe trucks out there .... especially the rusted out beaters.

Bottom line is they cost more (upfront and maintenance), and you don't have a lot to work with.
