Should I buy this Camry

Hey Scotty!

Hope all is well.

Question...  Saw a Camry 2007 in a dealer, 8k for the car, has 53k miles, and it's a stick shift.... Was thinking of negociating a bit to get that car.

Body seem to be in very good shape

Just saw you video on camry vs accord... The 2007 shows up as a potential oil/engine problem... So got me thinking.....  Will it be a good buy?

Do you think price is ok?

Thanks for the read!

They are asking too much. Those engines were defectively made so around 50-60k miles they start to burn oil like mad. I would avoid that generation of Camry (2007-2011). They also had multiple other issues I'm not even getting into like the dashboard melting and torque converter issues...

Too much money for that car. Also, those engines have tendency to burn oil. I would look for another car.

Thank you!

Find out whether the engine pistons and valves were rebuilt as part of the "Customer Satisfaction Recall." (Any Toyota Service Dept should be able to pull that up with the VIN). Run some enhanced diagnostic scans to see if there are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). Check to see if there's a black carbon residue in the tailpipe. Have the vehicle pre-purchased inspected by a diagnostic mechanic.

BTW, if the engine was not partially rebuilt under the program, walk-away. If it was, bargain down the price, if the inspection reveals that the car was not damaged, flooded, or in the name of another person or institution.

One more thing: With the 2007 run (only), there have been problems with wacky ABS modules. That shows up if-and-when the dashboard, and the speedometer turn erratic in the dash display unit.

Thank you so much for the input!
Will check that vin out !

Always cross-check with our Toyota/Honda Common Problems sticky under the Car Buying Guide:
