  • Scotty,
  • I've seen your talk about cars made in Mexico and problems with them.  My 2007 pt cruiser was made in Toluca and it's had its share of issues.
  • I'm getting a new Rav4 and it's made in Ontario.   Any issues with Canadian built?

Thank you!

This has been addressed numerous times before, but the answer is Canadian-built Toyotas are usually fine.

For the most part, I would say the Canadian and even the American counterparts of RAV4 or any Toyota is on par.

With that said, there seems to be a significant amount of fragile windshields from the Canadian. Usually a windshield an withstand a bit of gravel or tiny road debris. But I have seen on several RAV4 forums, and friends where the windshield cracked within the first 1000 miles. and it wasn’t covered under warranty.

Granted, insurance will take care of it for you assuming you have coverage. It is just a huge annoyance and shows that even Toyota isn’t perfect.

With all that said, I’d still rather get a Canadian RAV4 than any other American or Euro compact SUV.

If you do a search here there is a post which Scotty himself replied to about Mexico made Toyota Tacoma. He said it's Toyota quality so there's no problem with buying one made in Mexico. I would say the same with a Canadian built Rav4; it's Toyota quality so I wouldn't be concerned about it. It's really past those times that all of them would be built in Japan because it just doesn't make sense anymore.

Excellent.  Thank you all for the input.   I'm excited nonetheless.   My cruiser is dying and I need a new ride.  But my new ride is Canadian, eh?
