Hi Scotty,
I have a Toyota Avensis 2016, 2.0l diesel and it has the start/stop system on it.
Each time I start the car I deactivate the start/stop system.
The car came with an EFB battery but I decided to use a normal lead acid battery that has the same power and dimensions as the original one.
Do you think that by using a different type of battery it could damage in anyway the car's electrical system or charging system?
The new lead acid battery that I put in the car has 6 months and I didn't notice any problems until now.
Thank you!
Victor
Diesels require heavy duty batteries, and with start/stop car you need even more from the battery. You can probably get some more months or more out of your battery, but with all the electronics in cars these days, and how weird they act when the voltage varies, it probably would be best to replace that standard lead-acid with an EGM one. Here's some info from Yuasa on the topic, including
Yuasa EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery)
- Designed to meet the latest OEM vehicle demands
- EFB technology is now factory fitted to numerous entry level Start Stop vehicles
- Increased dynamic charge current acceptance over standard wet-flooded batteries (+170%), due to improved design including special Carbon additives and high charge acceptance envelope type separators
- Increased cyclic durability over standard wet-flooded batteries (+100%)
- Sealed tip/tilt double lid with integrated flame arrestor
