Hi Scotty, I have an old 96 Corolla 7a-fe with 161k miles. Car is fine, but I did service it yesterday and the oil that came out was significantly low (I do top ups).I know its an old engine and its expected. My mechanic advices for new rings (doesnt smoke), head gasket and overall maintenance for the engine. What would you advise I love it its a manual tranny. Also do additives help the one you always advocate for will it help.Car is bone dry doesnt leak
How much oil is it burning? You could change the PCV valve, and maybe try the ATS Carbon Clean product that Scotty has talked about in the event the rings are stuck. Other than that if the engine is really worn out it's hardly worth the cost of rebuilding or replacing in a 27-year-old Corolla - thousands of doallars. (You don't just replace rings, there will be other worn parts and even the cylinder bores may be out of spec, requiring boring oversize and installing oversize pistons.)
