Car occasionally makes sound on cold start

Hey Scotty, I have a toyota raize and I have noticed that it makes a specific grinding noise on a cold start. It doesn’t happen often but occasionally it does. There are no codes, no performance issues whatsoever. However, when the oil heats up, the noise goes away. I have a video with the noise in it.

You are the expert. You need to tell me why it’s making this noise.

You have hands and ears on the vehicle. You need to figure out why it's making that noise. We can only make suggestions as to how you may be able to accomplish that. If you search Scotty's videos you will see he demonstrates methods of how to find car noises and that would be an excellent place to start.

Also my question "why" in my response to you was why you think we should have direct video uploads here. That would require additional resources for storage and bandwidth. This site is funded only by Scotty, there are no advertisements and no donations taken. Having users provide a link to an external video sharing site (youtube preferred per Scotty) is not a huge burden to impose. You would need to take the issue up with Scotty himself since he ultimately calls the shots here.

take off the serpentine belt and see if the noise goes away.

you can also read our FAQ for finding noises and watch SCotty's videos

The noise comes once in a blue moon. I don’t think this will help identify the problem.

you will have to try it when the noise comes back.

Where is the video?

I don’t know how to post it here.

same way Scotty does. Upload it to Youtube. Post the link here.

I thought there would be an interface to add videos here directly.

Why?
