hey y’all just wanted to ask if it was true if i had to let the car idle for a bit during cold weather or if i could drive it right away. i’m hearing different things so i wanted to ask.
and does the same thing apply during warm weather, for less time?
if i drive the car right after starting it, can i press all the way down on the gas or wait until it’s at prime temp.
thanks
It would be wise to let it idle for just a minute or two so the oil can get on all the parts in the engine, when it’s really cold outside the oil inside the engine becomes a little like thick and doesn’t flow as easy as hot oil so I would let it idle a minute so you prevent premature ware to the engine
Engine needs to be warmed up and broken in, then you can floor it as much as you want. In winter temperatures I drive conservatively for about 15 minutes and 5 minutes in warmer temperatures up to 3000 rpm (petrol) or 2000 rpm (diesel).
When I start the engine I let it idle for a few seconds so oil splashes around.
Start the engine. Then buckle up, check your mirrors, check your gauges, and take a sip of coffee. By the time you do that, you should be fine to go. Yes, wait longer in the winter. Do not go full throttle or tow things until the engine has reached operating temp.
