Car won't go past 2nd gear

Hello. I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger with 112,000 miles. The car won't go past 2nd gear, the check engine light is on, I can't accelerate to more than 22 miles an hour, and even that seems to push the car to it's limit. It's rough and sometimes jerks forward when accelerating. Any advice is appreciated.

automatic transmission I presume?

Yes it's automatic

What codes did you get when you scanned it? How old are your air and fuel filters? Is fuel pressure up to specification? Are you burning oil (possible clogged catalytic converter)? When is the last time the transmission fluid and filter were changed?

I just got it scanned at AutoZone and the only code it said was p0870 and secondary code p0760. The air filters are about 2 years. I'm not sure how old the rest is, I've only had the car for almost 3 years and haven't changed those yet. The oil level seems fine and was changed a few months ago.

Scan it for codes, but it might require a fancy all systems scanner - the car probably knows why it won't let you shift into 2nd.

Also, if your car transmission has M mode, try shifting it manually into 2nd - a lot of the time it's just a bad internal transmission sensor that would require a lot of work to replace but the transmission usually still can operate it in manual mode.

Went to AutoZone and the codes were p0870 and p0760. My car doesn't have the manual mode unfortunately

First repair P0870 - it says your ATF pressure is too low. Is the ATF dirty? If so replace it.

I just got it scanned at AutoZone and the only code it said was p0870 and secondary code p0760.

Those codes indicate a transmission problem:

You're going to need to take the car to a good transmission specialist. (Avoid dealers and chain shops.)

I'll do that. Thanks for the advice
