Car won't shut off after switching off and removing the key

I have 2014 Ford Focus SE with 97K miles. I scanned using my LAUNCH x431... no DTC codes. Sometime the car will turn off immediately after turning the key to OFF... sometimes, it takes 10 - 20 seconds after I remove the key... the car will hesitate then turn off. Sometimes, and I found this by coincidence that if I hit the door lock key on the console, the car will turn off. Pretty obvious it is an electric problem. I have the scanner, the relay tester, a multimeter... What do you think is the problem and how do you recommend I troubleshoot it?

Thank you,

-KC

ignition switch would be my first guess. Did you try jiggling it?

not yet... I thought about jiggling the ignition switch... then I start wondering is why the car will sometime shudder and shut off shortly after removing the key.. which led me to think maybe it is a faulty Ignition relay stuck closed.

Go with MMJoe on this, busted ignition switch.

OK.. I'll zero onto the ignition switch... will keep you posted. Thx

I read up on the remote starter... the car came with a Ford original DNA-9 GEN-2 remote starter. I fished it out and disconnected it. Now when I turn the key off the car turns off.. I tried to reprogram the remote started system and I could hear a click sound (no horn) from under the dashboard but the car won't start. it is either the remote starter is faulty or one of the safety/security features (door, hood, etc.) is throwing a fault or I'm not programming it correctly. Anyway, the car starts and shuts off using the key now.. If anyone has a suggestion on how to troubleshoot the remote starter box, please share. Thanks.

Using a key?  What a concept.
