I have a 2003 Toyota Rav4 165.000 km 2.0 gasoline manual tranny with the P0420 Error code: Catalytic convcerter efficiency below threshold. I really hoped we could go for Cat delete but my mechanic said he cannot soft it so i have to buy another one. My question is can you delete the cat whitout soft? Thank you!
It is illegal to remove or modify emission control equipment.. Something else is causing this code. You need to find out what it is. Just throwing a new CAT on it probably will not solve your problem.
you are right, if its an oil burner i will have to change the cat every 2 years or so. But how complex is a cat delete job? I assume all legal actions
For a cat delete, I go to a muffler shop, cut the cat out, weld in a transition pipe and hope for the best.
I'm 99% sure a legitimate muffler shop would not remove the cat and replace it with a pipe.
For a Toyota, your car has low miles to have a cat issue. I'm wondering if you really need a new cat. For instance, a good cleaning may do the trick.
Have you watched Scotty's videos? Your mechanic may be a bit "over zealous".

Where I live, the muffler shop will cut off your arm and anything else for the right price.
