So, I have a 2012 VW Jetta GLI w/ the 2.0T TSI engine (CFBA)-Stick shift. I had a timing failure which resulted in my oil pump clogging up and my crankshaft going out. Now I am looking for a new engine to put in my car. But since my car calls for the CFBA California engine, I am having a hard time trying to find an engine that goes in my car for a reasonable price. I live in Tennessee, so I do not see any reason why I should follow California emission standards.
My question is, I know that you cannot put a CCTA engine in the car because emission standards are different than that of the CFBA engine. But if I were to swap out, now only the engine for a CCTA but the ECU to a CCTA ECU. This swap is surprisingly far cheaper to do than to find a CFBA engine. Would that affect anything major? Would I be able to pass emissions in my state? This in theory sounds like it would work, but then again- it’s Volkswagen. What do you think- anything helps?
Well I live in Tennessee where they don't do emissions testing so you could do whatever you wanted but if you live in one that checks emissions I doubt that you'd be able to get it to work unless you use the original design
