Hi Scotti
I bought a 2021 Sorento last December. I payed for and downloaded the Kia shop manual all 3800 pages from the KMA web sight. As I read I came across changing the coolant. It seems when you change the coolant you need a $6,000 KDS diagnostic and service tablet. This is because there is no coolant thermostat. There is a coolant control module which must be reset and bled after the coolant is replaced. I assume all new Hyundai's and Kia's are this way. Is there any way to do this manually or am I at the mercy of the dealer. Are other car brands doing stuff like this?
If so just don't tell my wife. {black}
That's a bunch of nonsense but really modern coolant is generally good for 10 years or 150,000 miles so it's not something you're probably going to think about for quite some time
Yes, you can change the coolant, easily. It shows you how, in the Kia Sorento Service Manual:
http://www.ksmanual.com/coolant_refilling_and_bleeding-270.html
I'm wondering if you were given information about ATF service, rather than coolant service, by the sales people or someone at the dealer.
FYI, the service manual covers the years from 2011-2021. The URL for the complete service manual is here: http://www.ksmanual.com/kia_sorento_xm_2011_year_service_manual-195.html
There are many diagrams that you might find useful, as the vehicle ages.

The owners manual is an easy link as well: http://www.ksmanual.com/kia_sorento_xm_owners_manual-3.html

Many folks should be under a "severe schedule" for service, rather than "normal?" For example: Live in a hot climate? Live in a city with lots of stop and go? Lots of idling in what's called "rush hour," but is often "idle hour"? Take short trips, frequently?
The manual lists all the conditions for "severe service." See if your use fits the bill, and use the "severe service" schedule for service, if it applies:

Here's another, detailed view on how often (and why) coolant needs to be changed more frequently than once a decade. I agree with this view (5 years, first change, and every 3 years after). The link explains how and why this is so: http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/321
The manual and links you refer to don't cover my car despite the links saying 2021.
These are for 2020's and earlier. The so-called 2nd generation. In December they released the 2021 that was completely redesigned. The shop manual for my car you either download for $110 in PDF form or view piece meal on line or $20 for three days access. {black}
Wow! Definitely not DIY friendly.
Hi Scotti
Yes it might be nonsense but it's all mine
My car is a referred to as a SORENTO(MQ4A)G 2.5 GDI THETA III which is any Sorento built after October of 2020(2021 model year). The car has what they refer to as a Integrated Thermal Management Module (ITM). This monstrosity takes the place of the thermostat housing on the back of the engine block. The block looks suspiciously like the block in my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe with a different head. It's funny how some of the parts say Hyundai / Kia on them. It has hoses from the radiator, the heater, the transmission and oil filter. It looks like a octopus and of course it has a twenty pin harness connector. The shop manual from Kia has a whole section dedicated to changing the coolant. Its at least 10 pages long using what they refer to as the KDS. That's a tablet with proprietary software to manually operate the ITM so as to bleed the system.
Your right. I probably don't have to worry about this for a while and by the time I do some kid will have a U-TUBE video on how to bleed the ITM system with a coat hanger. There is all ready is a kid who figured out how to adjust the electronic parking brake with a nine volt battery and a pair of clip leads. That's another ten page procedure in the service manual requiring the KDS.
So you want to go half's on a KDS? By the way despite the fact I could write a book on my adventures with this car I really like it. {black}
And as always don't tell my wife ! {black}

Here is an article on ITM. It's the Volvo version but KIA is doing the same thing.

It basically means only the dealer can change the coolant.
