Erratic shifting

Changed vehicle speed sensor and now I get consistent hard shifts, what do I do now?

I have a 2005 toyota camry LE with the 3.0L V6 engine. It has less than 110K miles. Last few months the car would struggle shifting as it was going from 20 mph to 30 mph. These shifts would happen at higher RPMs. However, this issue was erratic or intermittent as it wouldn't happen every time I drove. One day while driving the check engine light came in and the code said it was the vehicle speed sensor. I do not know how but the check engine light cleared itself the next time I started the car. A couple of months later I decide to replace the vehicle speed sensor anyway thinking it would permanently fix the transmission. I changed it with a OEM vehicle speed sensor. After changing it however, I drove down the road and now the shifts that happen as I go past 20 mph and past 30 mph are much harder shifts and it happens every time I drive the car. A new code came in, P0793: "Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit No Signal." I checked the transmission dip stick today and fluid is at proper levels and doesn't look dark. What should I do next as part of troubleshooting?

I changed it with a OEM vehicle speed sensor

which one? cars usually have a few.

Make sure you replaced the right one. But replacing sensors won't help if it's the wiring that's bad.

Yeah I thought it could be the wiring. I just find it odd that replacing this one vehicle speed sensor would make the car run worse. I bought the sensor off a toyota parts store, the part name said vehicle speed sensor I thought thats all I needed. This particular one sits on top of the transmission case.

When is the last time this 19-year-old transmission was serviced?

I honestly don't know. I inherited the car from my wife who bought the car at a toyota dealsership back in 2019. It was a trade in from an elderly lady who put only 50K miles on it.

I am taking it to AAMCO to have serviced tomorrow

it's possible some settings were reset, and now the transmission has to relearn them over time.

Big mistake. AAMCO is one of the biggest ripoff artists in the business.
