Charging batteries with battery mgmt systems/sensors

Hi Scotty.  Can I charge my 2016 Jeep Cherokee battery, while still connected to the car (including the battery mgmt systems/sensor) properly or will it interfere with the chargers ability to charge the battery properly (it's an AGM battery due to Start/Stop system)?  Also, can I damage the battery mgmt systems/sensor by charging it this way?

It has never caused problems for me. But if you're worried then just unhook the negative cable.

When you say charge, are you talking about trickle charging your battery?  I (trickle) charge the battery in my vehicles while they are still connected to the rest of the system.  It shouldn’t give you any problems.

Another way to look at it, when you jump start a car battery you don’t disconnect it from the rest of the vehicle first.

Let me know if I misunderstood the question.

Sorry for my delayed response.
Yes, using a battery charger which also has trickle charging capability...not "boosting" the battery.

Some "experts" say you should disconnect the battery sensor before boosting as it may damage it...not sure if that's true or not but I was wondering if the same could happen during normal (non boosting) charging.

I've used a battery tender for years on my cars without disconnecting the battery and have had no issues.
