Cheap van. 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport?

I am looking for a cheap knock around van. It will only be used occasionally, not something that I am going to be putting 20,000 kms/year on. The Toyota Siennas are too expensive, the Honda Odysseys are too expensive, I cannot find a Toyota Previa, and I cannot find an Mazda MPV. I can find all kinds of cheap Dodge Caravans, but Caravans are also rolling piles of garbage. I found a 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport (Montana) for a really goid price. I was wondering if this van is half decent at all. I am sure that it is not a great van by any streach of the imagination but I was thinking that at the very least it has to be better than a Caravan.

Cheap reliable van; ASTRO VAN......there i said it  LOL!

they were excellent value.

Unfortunately I cannot find an Astro or Safari. I also cannot find an Aerostar.

Yeah sorry you can't locate a Safari nor Astro Van. But stay away from the Aerostar or Windstar as they have their issues. Dodge Caravans..they have their problems. And as you said the Toy vans are expensive. Try this site and do some research on your choices:

It is a very informative tool to see what people have complained about for good reason.

If you're using it once every blue moon go for it

A cheap reliable van....look for a honda odyssey first generation 1995-98. Extremely reliable and you will get 300K on those cars. The mechanics is easy and not expensive either, but they don't break down.

Unfortunately I cannot find any first generation Odysseys.

what's your budget?

a 22 yr old dinosaur is going require some serious upkeep.

My budget is pretty low. Fortunately this will strictly be a knock around van.

so $500 ? $5,000 ? need at least a ballpark. And what's your area?

$1000-$2000 and I am in Nova Scotia Canada

I think your choices are going to be pretty slim

That is a bigger pile of junk and Scotty made a video on the 4 CYLINDER Dodge Caravan and they were actually decent. I would look for a 4 cylinder Dodge Caravan. Watch his video on it. Pontiac minivans are even worse.

Scotty never said that it was a good van. What he said was that the only reason that the transmission loaded as long as it did was because it was hooked up to a 4 cylinder and there had less power going to it to burn it out. Plus 4 cylinder Caravans were rarer than hens teeth so therefore I would never be able to find one.
