Hi Scotty! Long-time listener, first-time caller 🙂
I drive a 2014 Honda Pilot with 115K that just displayed a VVT solenoid code. Local mechanic diagnosed the check engine light, quoted me for 2 new VVTs, and cleared the code. I drove home. The engine is running as smoothly as ever, even at higher RPMs. No symptoms whatsoever.
Questions:
If the VVT solenoids are still malfunctioning, will the check engine light illuminate again right away? I'm not planning to replace them immediately if I can get away with it.
If this check engine code never fires again, does that mean my VVT solenoids are still functioning properly? I cleared a catalytic converter code last year that hasn't been back since (knock on wood!).
Thank you!!!
Adam

There's really no such thing as a "VVT solenoid code" that actually tells you the part is bad. What is the actual code? Nearly all codes have multiple potential causes.

Not necessarily. The problem has to reach a certain level before the check engine light is triggered. You could hook up your scan tool and see if there is a pending code.

Most likely.
